How does Collaborase compare on features?

Online discussions in free social networking tools can be difficult to follow and understand how everything links together. Collaborase goes beyond online discussion grounds or online office tools with a structured and transparent process to achieve consensus results, such as:

  • A working group of an association developing a standard (e.g. financial accounting or green certification or industry technology)
  • A government committee developing a policy, legal document or a plan (e.g. a national trade strategy)
  • An advistory board developing scientific research
  • A local group engaging stakeholder consultation to establish community support on public services

These projects often have stakeholders submit 100s or 1000s of comments. Each of those comments need to be reviewed, often by teams of experts, to decide whether a comment should be accepted or rejected. The process needs to be transparent. It needs to provide the reasons why and how the outcome was decided

Collaborase structures online collaboration with a transparent process and the tools to manage the discussion and generate consensus-based results.

How does Collaborase compare on price?

Collaborase is affordable and easy to use, unlike large enterprise knowledge management software or social business software that charges everyone to access the online space.

Many collaboration software companies charge a monthly fee per person to access the private workspace. A typical price is $10-15/person/month. A customer with 100 users would pay $1000 to $1500 per month, or $12000 to $18000 per year. A customer with 500 users would pay $60000 to $90000 per year.

Collaborase pricing starts at $250/month, which includes unlimited reviewers at no extra charge.

The ACT project was performed on a very tight timeline, requiring rapid and agile development of several methodologies and guides, as well as reporting by over 20 companies and extensive public consultation. The team at Collaborase quickly set up the online platform to support these activities and facilitated the rigorous and transparent process.

The Collaborase web platform enables ICROA members to complete online reporting templates to document conformance with ICROA's Code of Best Practice. The online reporting templates combine online editors, file sharing, commenting tools and Livelinked content from ICROA Code to make it easy for ICROA members to provide the required information and ClimateCHECK experts to assess the online reports and perform the audit online. Hence Collaborase helps save time and money for online reporting and auditing, whilst increasing consistency and supporting continuous improvement among members. In addition, Collaborase enables ICROA to assess performance across members and from year to year. The ClimateCHECK team has been revolutionary in supporting ICROA's work in best practice industry standards for voluntary carbon offsetting. ClimateCHECK's finger on the pulse with emerging standards and protocols has been an additional source of knowledge that we have been grateful to utilise. We look forward to a long term partnership with ClimateCHECK.

The Gold Standard has had a long proud history in its collaborative approach to standard and methodological development relying on a strong engagement from a broad range of cross-sectoral stakeholders. Collaborase has proved invaluable during the development of our latest V3.0 standard and continues to provide an effective means of collating feedback, comments and discussion as we further refine the standard. As The Gold Standard looks to develop future methodologies and further environmental standards, Collaborase will be a core component during all phases of the development cycle.

Collaborase has revolutionized the process of standard setting and consensus building and brought it into the twenty-first century. The range of functions Collaborase offers to support is extraordinary - the developers have thought of everything the various communities involved in standard setting could possibly need to make the process reliable, transparent, robust and dynamic. Standards can be kept "alive" on Collaborase rather than being consigned to the bookshelf. Collaborase not only supports standard setters, but also users of standards by providing them and their verifiers with tools and resources to keep standards updated, relevant and meaningful as business practices and contexts evolve. The Collaborase team is professional, supremely helpful and genuinely passionate.

Collaborase provided the right tools for the open consultation of the draft SDG Compass, developed by the UN Global Compact, GRI and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Mobile-accessibility and integrated surveys within the online document supplemented the interactive commenting tools to give us a wide range of feedback within a short timeframe to help finalize the SDG Compass, the guide for business action on the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

Green Seal has a long history of developing environmental standards according to ISO guidelines, and depends on open and transparent public input. Our stakeholders represent a tremendously wide variety of experience: health experts, industry, regulators, environmental interests, purchasers, and many others who are committed to sustainability. Collaborase gives us a powerful tool that is simple and elegant, and easily accessible from anywhere.

This platform easily manages the process of creating collaborative documents in full transparency, registers reviewers for us, and provides a detailed record of comments, responses, and subsequent versions. Useful services include a public page, customizable permissions for authors and reviewers, a task manager, and a bulk emailing function. The ability to import CSV files with stakeholder lists – and to export all comments and replies – at the click of a button saves a lot of time and effort.

One particularly powerful feature is the ability for authors and reviewers to enter their comments directly adjacent to the relevant sections of the document, consolidating them all in one place, and allowing the authors to read all related comments together, and reply to them directly within the Collaborase web interface. Creating a Response to Comments document is now a breeze, with an auditable record of comments and replies, and easy export of comments and replies.

Collaborase truly leads the way for efficient participatory online systems for standard development. We have received many compliments from our staff and stakeholders about the ease of use and attractive interface, and look forward to the next stages in their continuously-expanding toolkit, which will benefit all of our stakeholders, and Green Seal, as an accredited standards developer.
